The Valley Light Opera produced Rudolf Friml's The Vagabond King at Amherst Regional High School on November 7, 8, 9, 14, and 15, 1997. Michael Greenebaum stage directed; David Kidwell was the music director.

King Louis XI (Wayne Robertson) flirts with Jehanneton (Caralyn Ballou) and Isabeau (Mary Annarella) while Guy Tabarie (Robert Salvini) looks on.

The welcome
"Umbrageous nooks . . . sylvan bowers . . ."
Oliver le Dain (Al Hudson) welcomes Villon, alias the Count of Montcorbier, to court.

Huguette and Villon
"Perhaps, who knows?" -- "Perhaps ... who cares!":
Huguette de Hamel (Sara Bielanski) brazens it out with Montcorbier.

The ultimatum
"In the name of the Duke of Burgundy . . ."
Toison d'Or (Kurtiss Gordon) brings Burgundy's ultimatum to Louis.

Rapture
"Only a rose . . .":
The love of Katherine de Vaucelles (Lorena Foster Healy) saves Villon (Matthew Roehrig) at the end. In the background, Noël le Jolys (Elija Lillydahl-Schroeder) holds Villon's sword.
