Annual Meeting Edition

December 1999

CALL TO ANNUAL MEETING

The Twenty-fifth Annual Meeting of the Valley Light Opera, Inc., will be held on Tuesday, February 29 in the auditorium of the Amherst Regional Middle School, Chestnut Street, Amherst, Massachusetts, at 7:45 p.m.

The agenda for the meeting will include election of new Board members and action on reports from officers and committees as well as announcements. The Board does not anticipate any other business, but questions and suggestions from members of the VLO are always in order.

The Board of Directors
Barbara Davis, President

But read on . . .

One of the things that make our Annual Meetings different is that they are usually very short. This leaves time for entertainment. As usual, and as a celebration for the fact that the Valley Light Opera is celebrating 25 years of singing choruses in public, the program at this year's meeting will be special. The 25th Anniversary Committee has been working with videographer Ken Walker to put together a special anniversary videotape celebrating our quarter century. We'll be treated to its premiere at the Annual Meeting, which is for members only. We will also celebrate Frederic's millennial birthday with birthday cake and coffee after the premiere. Finally, Ken will be taking orders for the videotape. It will make a wonderful addition to your memories of the VLO!

It's our 25th Anniversary -- you can celebrate with us!

Enclosed with this newsletter is another 25th Anniversary Special -- just in time for holiday giving. We've assembled color photographs from all of our major productions for the past 25 years and put them together in a perpetual calendar, useful year after year to remind you of special dates. The sooner we get your order, the sooner we can get them back to you. Mail your order today! We had a mock-up of these gift calendars at Pirates. Now they're actually here and ready for you. Use the order form enclosed, and send it along with your membership renewal.

Iolanthe next fall!

Next, look for the Audition Edition of the VLO News in March. Next fall's production will be our twenty-sixth fall show. Auditions will be held on May 13 and 14, 2000, and performances will be on November 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11. In addition to singing, there are lots of jobs in the VLO, and we're looking for volunteers, folks who have interest, time, and energy, and want to learn more about how a community theater really works. For most jobs experience is not required, and you decide how much time you are able to give!

The Valley Light Opera is on the World Wide Web!

The VLO now has a website! Michael D. Bathrick, President of BerkshireNet, donates space on internet service provider BerkshireNet. Kurt Gordon is our WebMaster. Check us out at www.vlo.org! You'll find information about the VLO and, in addition, links to other G&S Web sites throughout the nation. Plans are afoot to use our Web site for educational outreach as well, another part of our 25th Anniversary!

SavoyNet -- Another note about the Internet and Gilbert and Sullivan --

Here's another G&S resource. SavoyNet is the international Gilbert and Sullivan Bulletin Board. It offers a chance to communicate with G&S lovers all over the world. To subscribe, without obligation, send an e-mail message to listserv@bridgewater.edu (leaving the "Subject" line blank) that says only subscribe savoynet [your full name], and instructions will follow.

Membership Renewal Time!

Finally--it's Membership Time. If you haven't become a member of the VLO before, why not consider it now? Membership provides valuable support for the Valley Light Opera, which gets all of its income from members, friends, and patrons. None comes from advertising! Almost everyone in the VLO is a volunteer. At $10 for individuals and $15 for families, annual dues for the Valley Light Opera are one of the best deals in town. Membership puts you in a special category of VLO supporters. We send you advance notification by first class mail of ticket sales for the annual fall production and you get a vote at the Annual Meeting. Just fill in the form below and mail it with your check (or bring them to the Annual Meeting). That's all there is to it! (And, if you want to fillout only one order form, you can renew your membership and order your gift calendars at the same time!)
