The Merry Widow One of the world's favorite operettas premiered in Vienna on December 30, 1905. Valley Light Opera celebrates the 100th Anniversary of The Merry Widow with a sparkling production! The lovely Pontevedrian widow, Hanna Glawari, has come to Paris after the death of her elderly, wealthy husband. Baron Zeta, Ambassador from that tiny nation, fears that she will become attracted to a French suitor and that her millions will thus leave the impoverished Pontevedro. He asks Count Danilo to woo and wed her, so that her money will stay in the fatherland. There are rivals for Hanna's affections, dancing girls from Maxim's, thwarted lovers, and misunderstandings. And of course, VLO's famously glittering costumes and sets, chorus, and full orchestra. Join us at the Pontevedrian embassy in Paris! |
