In October/November 2009 the VLO celebrated its 35th year with The Pirates of Penzance!

  • The Pirates of Penzance (subtitled or, The Slave of Duty), was presented on Oct. 30, 31, Nov. 1, 6, 7, and 8 in the auditorium of the Amherst Regional High School. This is probably the most popular of all of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

The VLO Celebrated Amherst's 250th Anniversary

  • On June 21, 2009 the VLO presented a concert of music based on Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost poetry.

A "romantic musical drama" in March 2009

  • For our 2009 spring production, VLO presented a concert version of The Beauty Stone on Saturday evening, March 7, 2009. Arthur Sullivan wrote the music for this serious light opera, collaborating with Joseph Comyns Carr and Arthur Wing Pinero, who wrote the lyrics and book.

VLO was adamant in 2008

  • The VLO 2008 fall production was Princess Ida (subtitled or, Castle Adamant), with performances on Nov. 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 in the auditorium of the Amherst Regional High School.

VLO journeyed to Japan in 2007

  • As our 33rd fall production, VLO presented The Mikado on November 2, 3, 4, 9, and 10, 2007 at Amherst Regional High School. It was VLO's fourth production of this, the most popular of the G&S light operas.

In 2006, VLO traveled from the canals of Venice to a mythical island

  • VLO presented our 32nd fall production on November 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11, 2006 at Amherst Regional High School. The Gondoliers premiered on December 7, 1889. It was the twelfth operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan, and is an international favorite.
