We did intend to go to Carrig-Cleena

  • For our 2008 spring production, VLO presented a concert version of The Emerald Isle or, The Caves of Carrig-Cleena on Saturday evening, March 8, 2008. This is the light opera on which Sullivan was working when he died. The music was finished by Edward German. The book is by Basil Hood, the same librettist with whom Sullivan collaborated on The Rose of Persia. We believe that our performance was the first one in the US with orchestra in more than 100 years.

    See the program notes.

VLO journeyed to Japan in 2007

  • As our 33rd fall production, VLO presented The Mikado on November 2, 3, 4, 9, and 10, 2007 at Amherst Regional High School. It was VLO's fourth production of this, the most popular of the G&S light operas.

In 2006, VLO traveled from the canals of Venice to a mythical island

  • VLO presented our 32nd fall production on November 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11, 2006 at Amherst Regional High School. The Gondoliers premiered on December 7, 1889. It was the twelfth operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan, and is an international favorite.
