Valley Light Opera produced Gilbert & Sullivan's Princess Ida at Amherst Regional High School on November 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9, 2008. Steve Morgan stage directed; Michael Greenebaum was the music director; Susanne Anderson was the assistant music director; Graham Christian was the choreographer.

Florian (John Healy) and King Hildabrand's court "search throughout the panorama" for King Gama and his daughter, Ida. Prince Hilarion (Jonathan Evans) ponders the twenty years that have passed since he saw his wife, the Princess Ida.
King Gama's sons Guron (Steven Atkinson), Arac (Matthew Roehrig), and Scynthius (Kurtiss Gordon) admit that though they are very masculine, they are not intelligent. King Hildabrand's (Nicholas Dahlman's) men (Gordon Freed and David Mix-Barrington) chain King Gama (Jonathan Klate) until the Princess Ida fulfills her marriage vows to Prince Hilarion.
At Castle Adamant, Lady Psyche (Chris McKenzie Willenbrock) instructs her students that "man is nature's sole mistake." "Minerva!" Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) prays to the Goddess of wisdom for guidance for the school year.
Lady Blanche (Lucy Robinson) explains abstract philosophy to Princess Ida (Elaine Crane)... the Is, the Might Be, and the MUST. "After scaling fence and paling, here, at last, we are!" Cyril (Philip Helzer) and Prince Hilarion (Jonathan Evans) break into Castle Adamant with Florian.
Prince Hilarion (Jonathan Evans), Florian (John Healy), and Cyril (Philip Helzer) convince Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) that they are three young women who "wish to join this University." Lady Blanche (Lucy Robinson) scolds her daughter Melissa (Heather Davies) when she finds out that the three new students are men.
Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) discovers that the new students are "men in women's clothes" and demands their arrest. King Hildabrand (Nicholas Dahlman) and his troops storm Castle Adamant to force Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) to fulfill her marriage vows or he and his men will destroy the castle.
Lady Psyche (Chris McKenzie Willenbrock) encourages Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) to use "gentler means" than war... Ida is not convinced. Arac (Matthew Roehrig) explains that the armor that he and his brothers wear is very uncomfortable ... so they take it off.
Castle Adamant is victorious! Princess Ida (Elaine Crane) agrees to rule along side Prince Hilarion (Jonathan Evans).
